HOME Program
The Unifour Consortium has a membership of all 28 units of local government located in Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba Counties. These governments joined together in 1996 to be eligible to receive HOME funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. In order to assist as many families as possible the Consortium developed a down payment assistance program for first time homebuyers.

Nine lending institutions have joined to assist the Consortium by providing first mortgages and waiving some fees. These lenders have provided over $90 million dollars to first time homebuyers.

Since its inception in 1996, 1,121 low and moderate-income families have purchased their first homes as a result of this program. To date, the total funding received from the HOME program is $8,641,184.

In 1999 this program was awarded a “Best Practices Award” by the Office of Housing and Urban Development.
