Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Architectural Services: WPCOG Building Expansion
The Western Piedmont Council of Governments (“WPCOG”) is seeking a qualified firm (“Firm”) to provide services for Building Design and Construction Administration for the improvement and addition to its building located 1880 2nd Avenue NW; Hickory, NC 28601.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
WPCOG staff began planning for expansion of the WPCOG office to accommodate future growth of staff and other the potential addition of other regional services. The current offices of the WPCOG were constructed in 2011. At that time, the offices provided significant extra space for the staff. However, staff have increased by 42% since that time.
The current WPCOG building is 20,000 square feet and sits on a property of 3.74 acres. The new building expansion should include approximately 13,000 to 15,000 additional square feet of office space and additional parking. WPCOG owns the 4.4 acres of property directly adjacent to the east of the 3.74 acres. It is expected that the new building expansion and parking addition will need to utilize the adjacent 4.4 acre property. The WPCOG desires to add about 25-30 new offices for WPCOG personnel and create a regional NCWorks Career Center with the addition that will house 35-40 employees.
OBJECTIVES
The WPCOG proposes to retain a highly qualified firm to plan, design, bid and provide construction administration for the project for a fixed price. The firm must have a commitment to designing facility expansion to meet the WPCOG’s service needs while also adhering to the architecture of the existing building. Because the WPCOG is categorized as a government entity, the firm’s prior experience with local government building projects (especially expansions) is desirable.
