Fan/Heat Relief

Free fans available to older adults and adults with disabilities in the Unifour.

Duke Energy has contributed $40,000 to the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Service to assist in the purchase of fans for older adults and adults with disabilities. We appreciate their generosity and desire to help reduce the threat to the health and well-being of North Carolina’s vulnerable citizens during the 2016 summer season.

The local Area Agency on Aging received their portion of the funding for Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties and was able to purchase 156 fans. Home Depot in Hickory was very helpful and gave a discount on the cost of the fans.

The eligibility requirements to receive a fan are:

  • Person must be an adult: 60 years of age or older or with a disability;

  • Person must reside in a county that is served by Duke Energy;
