Youth workers and educators met at the Western Piedmont Council of Governments to be trained on hosting their own community Robox sumo event. Teachers, 4-H volunteers, science center representatives, and homeschool parents met to build and challenge each other in Robox Sumo (www.pittpiratesrobotics.com). This cost effective robotics program uses easily accessible parts and remote control systems as robots work to push each other out of the ring. The collaboration in building and the excitement of the challenge had all participants engaged. The event was funded by Biogen (www.nccommunityfoundation.org) with a $5000 grant. All participants are expected to host their own community event this fall. Each one left with over $100 of supplies and will have access to the remote controls for the events. Look for these across the Unifour this fall!
